If you go down to the woods today...

Set between the mountain peaks, the pine trees loom tall above the glistening emerald waters of Lochan Uaine (the Green Loch). So called because of local stories of the waters being coloured by the fairies washing their clothes, this place is where dreams really do, come to life.

The last remnants of the Ancient Caledonian Pine Forest can be found here in Strathspey, across the Glenmore Forest Park.

Some of these pines are direct descendants of trees brought here 9000 years ago! Absolutely beautiful on a frosty day like today.

We’re off on an adventure! Stuart decided to join my friend and I exploring a new area today, and we took the boys along with us.

The Uath Lochans are just outside Aviemore. The name is pronounced "wah lochans", which means the ‘hawthorn small lochs’.

After reaching the wee village of Kingraig, it’s a short drive along to Glen Feshie for the start of the walk.

Climbing high above the glen and offering spectacular views, over not only these beautiful pools of water, but both the Cairngorms and Loch Inch, this was an absolutely wonderful wee adventure.

I’ve found since this on and off lockdown has been around, just conquering getting out and about has been it’s own mountain. But the climb has been so worth it. 🥰🏞

Finally made it to Bow Fiddle Rock!

After seeing so many guests pictures and hearing their tales of exploring this wonder of nature, I was really excited to get the chance to see if for myself.

The boys, a friend and I headed North East from Firhall and stopped off, on the way, at the Craigellachie Bridge just as the Winter sun was casting a beautiful golden glow.

It was only an hour in total to Bow Fiddle and the views were epic. After exploring the cliffs and caves we watched the shags and gulls roost on the rock islands for the night, collected sea glass and took some cracking shots.

Nearby Cullen beach was a great tip from the lovely lady in the local shop at Portknockie for an Aberdeen Angus burger and a stunning walk on the long, sandy beach, which looked pink in the sunset. We even saw a very brave surfer catching waves despite the cold.

QUINCES...our bountiful harvest has been gathered and the process of making our homemade quince jelly is well underway. It’s a Victorian favourite that accompanies our Scottish cheese board just beautifully.🍈

You might recognise this ‘wee hoose’ on nearby Loch Laggan. Ardverikie House is the filming location and ‘body double’ for Balmoral in the Netflix series The Crown.

The estate has also been home to the shooting of the latest upcoming @007 movie ‘A time to die’ and the @bbc series ‘Monarch of the Glen’.

With series 4 of The Crown out now, there’s never been a better time to take one of our top adventures and quad bike or 4x4 safari around this stunning estate.🏰
