The Isle of Skye is a huge draw to many who are touring the Highlands and Islands of Scotland. Guests often stay with us on their way to and from this jewel in the Scottish landscape. Steeped in stories of fairy glens, fairy pools and local superstitions it is an amazing place with an aura of it own. It’s not surprising then that it inspired us whilst were renovating this old house. We decorated and even named one of our guest rooms after this mysterious and mystical island. Our Skye Room was completely inspired by the dark and brooding colours of the Islands landscape. With warm browns and auburn shades seen in the scenery at the Old Man of Storr being echoed in our deep mahogany furniture and luxurious tartan wallpaper, there couldn’t be a more relaxing space to remind you of this mythical place. So we found out recently when a pair of newly-wed guests stayed at Firhall following their wedding in the Isle of Skye.
For Alexandra & Andreas the rural wedding of their dreams had been just a few days before they arrived with us here in Grantown-on-Spey. After the three and a half hour journey from Skye we welcomed them to our home here in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park. They were so pleased with the rooms little touches, cosy feel and nods to it’s namesake seen throughout the decor. It was lovely to hear how much our efforts had touched these guests on their wedding – and now honeymoon tour of Scotland. After four days of exploring some of the lochs, rivers, mountains and ancient forests from Firhall, they had to continue on their tour. Then, a few weeks later and after their return to Germany we received this kind email and some images to share with you on our blog.
Dear James and Stuart, We`re back in Germany for a few weeks now but we are speaking almost every day about our wedding and the trip to Scotland. You are great hosts and we enjoyed every moment at Firhall. The house is very impressive and we were so relieved when you welcomed us in your casual clothes and we felt from the first moment very comfortable. You are doing a great job and to be honest, Firhall was the most beautiful B&B on our trip. The rooms are all so beautifully furnished and despite the high quality, our room had a cozy atmosphere which we loved very much. Not to forget your surprise when you heard that we`ve got married a few days before. Hopefully you are still running Firhall on our next trip to Scotland, we would love to stay with you again. We attached some pictures of our wedding and of your beautiful home.

Stuart and I wish the happy couple the very best for their new adventure in married life together. We hope you enjoyed these snaps as much as we did and hope you’ll get the chance to head over the sea to Skye or to one of the other amazing Scottish islands sometime soon. And if you can’t, at least you’ll get the feeling of the magic of the Isle of Skye with a night or two in our Skye bedroom. Life is certainly all about the adventure, we just have to go out there and find it – just like these two have!
