The Speyside Whisky Trail
Here at Firhall B&B we have the world famous Speyside Malt Whisky Trail close by. There are a number of distilleries within driving distance from us in Grantown-on-Spey. Both the new or experienced whisky enthusiast have the opportunity to experience the largest concentration of malt whisky distilleries in the world! Set in the most varied and beautiful scenery of the Scottish Highlands. From Glenfarclas, one of the only family run and owned distilleries in Scotland to the impressive internationally owned, but Scottish hearted Glenlivit. There are so so many to see and try. There are supposedly 60 distilleries in the Speyside trail. We couldn’t possibly list them all but check out these popular distilleries for opening days and times and to see what they have to offer. Booking in advance is highly recommended in the summer.
Even for the driver most of the distilleries offer a ‘takeaway’ pack for you to taste your whiskies back in the comfort of Firhall.

Scottish Small Batch Gins
It has been said that Scottish Gin will outsell Scottish Whisky by 2020! A large claim but with 70% of the UK’s Gin exports coming from Scotland it is quite possible. Sadly the Gin Trail stretches from the Borders to the Outer Islands making it a little tricky to get round so many in a short time. However, we are pretty fortunate to have some of the finest distilleries a short drive from Firhall Highland Bed and Breakfast.
Caorunn For a small batch, Scottish spirit, Caorunn has made a huge splash in the Gin World. Sample the tastes and smells of the unique blend of botanicals as you attempt to guess the secret recipe. Winning numerous Icons of Gin Awards for their distillery tour and delicious craft gin itself, this is a must for any Gin-thusiast and one of our Top Adventures!
Inshriach This distillery is not generally open to the public but runs Open Days once a month which are take the form of mini festivals with food, music and cocktails. You might even find special appearances from other gin makers too! The distillery may be available for private parties, weddings, events and run botany and foraging weekends once or twice a year for you to immerse yourself in the life of a highland gin maker.
Daffys Why not treat yourself to a Gin Making session down at Daffy’s Gin School. Forage for your own botanicals and spend two and a half hours creating your own signature gin! Leave with 3 x 20cl bottles of your own unique gin and a certificate of membership to ‘The Honourable Society of Strathmashie Distillers’.
